Improved Fishing Facilities at St Thomas Bay, Marsascala
Infrastructure Malta has completed a series of EU funded fisheries enhancement works, strengthening essential maritime infrastructure used by the local fishing community in Marsascala.
This investment formed part of Infrastructure Malta's ongoing efforts to improve the safety, accessibility, and long-term functionality of important coastal facilities. These works included the reconstruction and upgrading of the slipway along Jetty 2, refurbishment works on Jetty 2 and Quays 2 and 3, as well as repair interventions on the quay accessed from Triq Il-Qaliet.
These interventions addressed infrastructure that had deteriorated over time due to its constant exposure to the maritime environment. Through this project, damaged structures were repaired, upgraded or rebuilt, while safer surfaces were introduced and key elements of the maritime infrastructure were reinforced.
The upgraded facilities now better support daily fishing-related operations, including the launching and retrieval of vessels, mooring, boarding, unloading, and the handling of fishing equipment.
This EU funded investment reflects Infrastructure Malta's commitment to delivering infrastructure that serves the needs of local communities, supports the fishing sector and enhances the safety and accessibility of Malta's coastal facilities. Through these works, St Thomas bay now benefits from stronger, safer and more functional maritime infrastructure, ensuring that these facilities can continue to serve fishers, sea users and the wider Marsascala community for years to come.
